Yarn: Red Heart Super Saver acrylic in Mexicana
Needles: US 3 double-pointed (see my double-pointed needle tutorial to learn how they work)
This little guy was made very similarly to the snake pattern using the self-twisting tube technique (see my tutorial on twisted tubes to learn how to make one). The stitch count was 12, or 4 on each needle. As always, I didn't count rows; I just kept knitting until it looked like a good length, then made the head.
His head was not expanded as with the snake; just split at the end into two-thirds for the top and one-third for the bottom. Instead of using yarn to sew the mouth/throat closed, I used purple embroidery thread because yarn would have been too bulky in there. The eyes are small white beads with a Sharpie dot marked on them, so they are not safe for an unsupervised small child. I recommend changing it to have embroidered eyes if you're concerned about the choking hazard.
I wove black yarn through the holes instead of matching rainbow yarn, because using the rainbow, the colours didn't line up properly and it looked odd. The black gave it a nice contrast instead.
