Yarn: Caron Perfect Match acrylic in Orange and Green (note: I had the bright Caron orange on hand, but later found some Red Heart Super Saver orange that is more natural-pumpkin coloured, so use whichever one suits your tastes)
Needles: US 6, 8, and 10 double-pointed (see my double-pointed needle tutorial to learn how they work), plus size 8 circular needle with a 14" cable
Also needed: a small amount of black felt or equivalent cloth, plus black sewing thread
Cast 6 sts (2 on each needle) of the orange yarn on the size 6 DPNs. If needed, place a stitch marker to indicate the start of the round.

Switch to size 8 circular needle as you progress on the next round. Place a marker at the start of the next round, and you may wish to hang a row counter from it as well to count the rounds in each section between increases/decreases.

Switch back to the size 8 DPNs.

Switch to the size 10 DPNs and bind off (using the larger needle to bind off ensures a loose end edge).
Using the green yarn and size 6 DPNs, cast two stitches on TWO needles for a total of four stitches. Knit rounds until you have the desired strap length (I did 16 inches). You could also do i-Cord for the strap, but I personally don't like making i-Cord and I find the result is smoother knit in the round this way. Sew the strap onto the sides of the opening of the bag.
Design your own template for a Jack-O-Lantern face and cut it out of the black felt. Stretch out the side you want to use for the face a bit, and sew on the pieces using black thread.
