Mini Easter Egg Toys

Mini Bunny

Yarn: TLC Essentials Solid in Taupe, bit of scrap white yarn for tail, plus black and pink embroidery floss

Needles: US size 1 double pointed needles (see my double-pointed needle tutorial to learn how they work)

Body and Head

CO 6 sts, 2 on each needle (2 2 2)
Inc1 in all; 12 sts (4 4 4)
Inc1, K1, repeat around; 18 sts (6 6 6)
Knit 5 rounds
K2tog, K1, repeat around; 12 sts (4 4 4)
Knit 1 round
Stuff body
K2tog all; 6 sts (2 2 2)
Knit 1 round
Inc1 in all; 12 sts (4 4 4)
Knit 3 rounds
K2tog all; 6 sts (2 2 2)

Stuff head. Break yarn and sew through remaining sts.

Ears

Pick up 2 sts on the side of the head. Work 6 rows of garter stitch. K2tog, break yearn and pull through remaining st.

Finishing

Using embroidery floss, make little eyes and nose. Using a bit of scrap white yarn, sew through 2 sts at the bum, tie a tight square knot, sew part of the yarn back through the knot to anchor it, and snip the ends, letting them fluff out.

Mini Bee

Yarn: Red Heart Super Saver in Black and Bright Yellow

Needles: US size 1 double pointed needles (see my double-pointed needle tutorial to learn how they work)

Body and Head

CO 6 sts, 2 on each needle (2 2 2) in yellow
Inc1 in all; 12 sts (4 4 4)
Inc1, K1, repeat around; 18 sts (6 6 6)
Knit 2 rounds in black.
Knit 2 rounds in yellow.
Knit 2 rounds in black.
Knit 1 round in yellow.
With yellow: K2tog, K1, repeat around; 12 sts (4 4 4)
Knit 1 round in black.
Stuff body.
With black: K2tog all; 6 sts (2 2 2)
Break black yarn and tuck end of yarn inside piece.
Knit 1 round in yellow.
Inc1 in all; 12 sts (4 4 4)
Knit 3 rounds.
K2tog all; 6 sts (2 2 2)

Stuff head. Break yarn and sew through remaining sts.

Finishing

With black yarn, embroider on small eyes and a smiling mouth. Sew the black yarn up through the head at one antenna point, then twist the yarn tightly so it curls back on itself. Sew back down through the yarn at the base of the antenna, then back out through the next antenna point. Repeat for second antenna, sewing the yarn through the body and cutting it at the back end, burying the tail in the body.

Mini Caterpillar

Yarn: Red Heart Super Saver in pastel colours, plus black embroidery floss

Needles: US size 1 double pointed needles (see my double-pointed needle tutorial to learn how they work)

Body and Head

CO 6 sts, 2 on each needle (2 2 2) in first colour
*Inc1 in all; 12 sts (4 4 4)
Knit 3 rounds.
Stuff this portion.
K2tog all; 6 sts (2 2 2)
K2tog all; 3 sts (1 1 1)
Change colour, if desired.*
Repeat between *s as desired, noting that 5 segments curls up nicely into a 2.25" egg. One of the end segments will be the head, so it's best to pick a light colour in order to allow the facial features to contrast well. On the last segment, break yarn and sew through remaining sts.

Finishing

With black floss, embroider on small eyes and a smiling mouth. Sew the floss up through the head at one antenna point, then twist it tightly so it curls back on itself. Sew back down through the floss at the base of the antenna, then back out through the next antenna point. Repeat for second antenna, sewing the floss through one body segment, burying the tail in the body.

Mini Ladybug

Yarn: Red Heart Super Saver in Black and Hot Red

Needles: US size 1 double pointed needles (see my double-pointed needle tutorial to learn how they work)

Body and Head

CO 4 sts on TWO needles (2 2) using Hot Red
Inc1 in all; 8 sts (4 4)
Inc1, K2, Inc1, repeat for other needle; 12 sts (6 6)
Inc1, K4, Inc1, repeat for other needle; 16 sts (8 8)
Knit 6 rounds.
K2tog, K4, K2tog, repeat for other needle; 12 sts (6 6)
K2tog, K2, K2tog, repeat for other needle; 8 sts (4 4)
Stuff body lightly.
K2tog all; 4 sts (2 2)
Switch to black.
Inc1 in all; 8 sts (4 4)
Knit 2 rounds.
K2tog all; 4 sts (2 2)

Stuff head. Break yarn and sew through remaining sts.

Finishing

With black yarn, embroider on two spots. Sew up through the head at one antenna point, then twist the yarn tightly so it curls back on itself. Sew back down through the yarn at the base of the antenna, then back out through the next antenna point. Repeat for second antenna, sewing the yarn through the body and cutting it at the back end, burying the tail in the body.
