I needed some small toys to fit in 2.25" plastic Easter eggs, but most patterns I found were too big to fit. So I designed some quick little spring/Easter-themed toys to fit small eggs. Note that in the group photo above, the flowers are from Nicky Epstein's Knitted Flowers with i-cord stems added, the white goose-duck thing is from Jan Messent's Knit a Fantasy Story with additional shaping, and the man is a basic Little Dude.
Mini BunnyYarn: TLC Essentials Solid in Taupe, bit of scrap white yarn for tail, plus black and pink embroidery floss Needles: US size 1 double pointed needles (see my double-pointed needle tutorial to learn how they work) Body and HeadCO 6 sts, 2 on each needle (2 2 2) Stuff head. Break yarn and sew through remaining sts. EarsPick up 2 sts on the side of the head. Work 6 rows of garter stitch. K2tog, break yearn and pull through remaining st. FinishingUsing embroidery floss, make little eyes and nose. Using a bit of scrap white yarn, sew through 2 sts at the bum, tie a tight square knot, sew part of the yarn back through the knot to anchor it, and snip the ends, letting them fluff out. |
Mini BeeYarn: Red Heart Super Saver in Black and Bright Yellow Needles: US size 1 double pointed needles (see my double-pointed needle tutorial to learn how they work) Body and HeadCO 6 sts, 2 on each needle (2 2 2) in yellow Stuff head. Break yarn and sew through remaining sts. FinishingWith black yarn, embroider on small eyes and a smiling mouth. Sew the black yarn up through the head at one antenna point, then twist the yarn tightly so it curls back on itself. Sew back down through the yarn at the base of the antenna, then back out through the next antenna point. Repeat for second antenna, sewing the yarn through the body and cutting it at the back end, burying the tail in the body. |

Repeat for second antenna, sewing the floss through one body segment, burying the tail in the body. |

Break yarn and sew through remaining sts. FinishingWith black yarn, embroider on two spots. Sew up through the head at one antenna point, then twist the yarn tightly so it curls back on itself. Sew back down through the yarn at the base of the antenna, then back out through the next antenna point. Repeat for second antenna, sewing the yarn through the body and cutting it at the back end, burying the tail in the body. |
