One-Click Charity Check

Welcome! This site is dedicated to reviewing One-Click charities online. My mission is to provide in-depth reviews in order to give supporters of these charities the information they need to spend their clicking time wisely, and to encourage the sites themselves to strive for a high level of accountability, usability, accuracy, and honesty.

My purpose is not to negate the efforts of sites that do not pass my criteria. I understand that some one-click charity sites are run by generous individuals as opposed to big companies, and thus may not have the time or expertise to produce a fancy site with all the bells and whistles that many people have come to expect from dotcoms. For this reason, the reviews focus mainly on whether or not the site is genuinely giving the money it collects to the designated charities, and matters of aesthetics are secondary.

I am reviewing only one-click, free donation style charities. For more information on what does and does not fit that category, please see the FAQ.

New sites are popping up all the time now, and older sites are often abandoned. I am only one person, so please bear with me as I try to keep up with the reviews. As I find new sites, they will be added to the list, and will be reviewed in due course. Sites that have not yet been reviewed or whose review is pending will be marked as such on their pages here. If you wish to suggest a site for review, please go to my contact page. But please check that the site is not already listed on the full list of charities page; email notifying me of a site already listed there will be ignored.

Please note: the purpose of this site is NOT to validate the beneficiaries of the one-click sites. While I may decide to do that far in the future, I have no plans to do so at this time. I urge concerned individuals to carefully examine the information available from each beneficiary to determine whether or not it is a cause you wish to support. You may wish to check out some of the links I have for organizations that rate charities.

I regret that this site is currently only available in English, as I do not speak any other language fluently enough to provide an accurate translation. If someone would like to volunteer to produce an accurate, faithful translation into another language, please contact me.

What's New?

April 14, 2004: Effective immediately, I regret to announce that One-Click Charity Check is on hiatus, possibly permanently. I simply don't have the proper amount of time to give to this project anymore. However, should time become more plentiful in the future, I'll return to it. For that reason, I'm not deleting the pages, but will mark each one at the top as being for archival purposes only. In the meantime, I hope one-click users will continue to demand high standards from sites where they spend their time, and I wish site operators the best of luck in this increasingly challenging area.

November 20, 2003: Added MADD to the list to be reviewed. Added a new list of quick'n'easy confirmations for those who are looking for just that limited bit of information.

September 21, 2003: I'm back after a summer off! My time has been very limited lately, but my goal now is to do one review a month. Today I'm going to clean up my list (see notes below), and later this week I'm going to go through the whole thing and see which sites are going to be easily confirmable in terms of passing on donations. This seems to be the main criteria most of you come looking for, so I'll make a quick list of the obviously legitimate sites, with detailed reviews to come as I have time to do them. Thank you for your patience.

September 21, 2003: The following changes were made to the lists:

  • The Humanitarian Site (URL: http://www.thehumanitariansite.com/), which had been graded B, is no longer a free-click charity. It points to an error page within its owner/beneficiary, Cross Cultural Solutions. It has been removed.
  • Click for United Way (URL: http://www.clickforunitedway.com/) has a message saying they are no longer running a click-to-donate program. It has been removed.
  • Aid for Teens is a mostly blank page, with only a plain text message that says, "Welcome to Aid for Teens.com." I'll give the site a few weeks before I delist it, just in case its undergoing maintenance or upgrade.
  • Save the Rain Forest seems to be back up and running, so I've moved it from the temporarily down list to the main list for review.
  • Stargiving (URL: http://www.stargiving.com/), which had been on the Unconfirmable list, is now defaulting to a registrar page, which I'm taking to mean that it is gone. It has been removed from the list.
  • New sites added:

Old news from more than three months ago.
