All beading graphics on this page were created by Kimberly Chapman, and are my exclusive property. Feel free to link to this page, but please do not steal the graphics and pictures. It took hours of work to make them. If I find them elsewhere on the Internet, I will consider pursuing legal charges against the site owner.
You will have to thread and remove your needle fairly often in beading. Every time you make a mistake and want to pull a few beads off, every time you have to add new thread, and just sometimes by accident, that needle is going to come off. Having to thread a beading needle without a threader is quite difficult, because the needles are so small. So here is a step-by-step guide, with pictures, for using a threader. I use Singer brand plastic threaders, because the tin ones always break. You can get three of the Singer ones for 99 cents at Michaels, in the sewing section.
Poke the wire part of the threader through the eye of the needle. |
Pull some of the thread through the wire loop. |
Pull the threader back out of the eye. Do this gently, taking care not to tug too hard. Depending on the needle and the size of the thread, you may have to pull a little harder than normal, but if you yank it you'll just break the threader. If it won't come through, wiggle it around a little, up and down in the eye, trying to find a wider place on the eye. If it absolutely will not come through, the thread is probably too wide for the needle. |
After the threader has exited the eye, pull the thread out of the wire loop. Ta-da! |
