Yarn: Caron Perfect Match acrylic in Sunflower and Green
Needles: US 3 double-pointed (see my double-pointed needle tutorial to learn how they work)
Cast 6 sts (2 on each needle) of the yellow yarn
Knit two rows around
Inc one into every stitch; 12 sts (4 4 4)
Knit 5 rows around
Inc one into every stitch; 24 sts (8 8 8)
Purl 10 rows around
P2tog at start of each needle; 21 sts (7 7 7)
Purl 10 rows around
P2tog at start of each needle; 18 sts (6 6 6)
Push cotton ball(s) firmly down into stem piece.
Purl 10 rows around
P2tog at start of each needle; 15 sts (5 5 5)
Purl 8 rows around, begin stuffing as you go from this point, packing the fiberfill in tightly, ensuring that the stiffer cotton ball remains in the stem.
P2tog at start of each needle; 12 sts (4 4 4)
P2tog around; 6 sts (2 2 2)
P2tog around; 3 sts (1 1 1)
Break yarn and pull through remaining stitches tight.
Roll the corn between your hands vigorously to make the stuffing sit evenly. Embroider on a face, if desired.
Cast 15 sts (5 on each needle) of the green yarn
Knit 2 rows around
Inc one into first stitch on each needle; 18 sts (6 6 6)
Knit around one row.
Inc one into every other stitch; 27 sts (9 9 9)
Knit around one row.
Inc one into first stitch on each needle; 30 sts (10 10 10)
Knit around until it's long enough to cover about one third of the corn cob, about 3.25 inches. Then, instead of continuing around to the next row, purl back along the needles until you're back at the first stitch of the first needle. Repeat this 8 times (16 rows of non-joined).
To shape the first leaf, knit and purl back and forth along the first needle only (10 sts), following this pattern:

P10 (back along first needle, continue all purl rows backwards like this)
K10
P2tog, P6, P2tog; 8 sts
K8
P2tog, P4, P2tog; 6 sts
K6
P2tog, P2, P2tog; 4 sts
K4
P2tog twice; 2 sts
K2
P2tog
K1, bind off.
Then reintroduce the yarn at the start of the next two needles to repeat this, forming three leaves.
